The Haunting of Hill House: Review

Hello Friend!

I will watch just about anything with a horror theme that comes out on Netflix. Movies, shows, anything! Okay…not just Netflix, anywhere. I love anything and everything horror. Even the bad ones that everyone hates.

I had plans on watching the Haunting of Hill House since I first heard about it. It was always in the plans. But then Mr. Stephen King (my favorite author of all times) decided to comment about how amazing this show was. So of course that made me move a little quicker to watch the show. It took me 3 days to watch all 10 episodes…but I could have easily done it in one day given better circumstances. Work gets in the way of so much stuff!

Let’s get down to business. What you are really here for. What did I think about The Haunting of Hill House?

FREAKING LOVED IT!

Okay okay. Let me talk about all the reasons I love this show. I actually have reasons to love this show and not just an over all “I just love it” excuse.

First, let me talk about the actors. Every child actor in this movie is phenomenal. It made me wonder if these kids were picked out of some cloning field where they just mass produce great child actors. Not a single one let me down with the believability of their fear. It made the show feel so much more real, like there was some bent neck lady standing behind me, watching me.

The adult actors…they were so fantastic. I loved the chemistry between them all, how much they felt like siblings. Not to mention the familiar faces. Carla Gugino who played the lead in Geralds Game, another Netflix Original. She was also on a TV series called Wayward Pines. As well as on Watchman.  Then we have Kate Siegel who played the lead in Hush, Netflix original. She is also the wife of Mike Flanagan who had his hands all over The Haunting of Hill House.

The camera work of this show was something of magic. Seriously, there had to have been magical creatures moving these cameras because it was so smooth. There was a ton of movement but not once did I worry about motion sickness. To go along with the great camera work I want to add the transitions! There are a ton of transitions from present day to the past and the transitions are so quick, smooth, and seemless. They were also very clear and not once did I wonder where in the story line I was at.

The Haunting of Hill House is all over the place. The timeline is not a straight line in either the past or present day. There is a lot of jumping around but it is done is such a way that you know exactly where you are in the story and what happened when. It was so great because you knew what was going on, but there were so many questions you were waiting for answers. It’s one of the greatest things about the show, it answered all the questions, but in it’s own time and it wasn’t stretched out to the point where you just couldn’t continue to watch because you got bored.

This show was actually scary! It gave me tingles at the back of my head, which happens when I am legitimately enjoying a horror movie. It doesn’t happen often anymore because things are just not as scary as they once were. Don’t get me wrong, I love horror and the stories, but they don’t scare me as much. This actually freaked me out a little bit. There was even a few jump scares that got me! One of the jump scares I didn’t even see coming and I loved it!

Now, it wasn’t all fun and games. There was one episode where things went on almost too long and I wanted to rush through it. Good news, this was on the very last episode where everything was being wrapped up and all questions answered. There was only one moment where I was like “Can this scene be over with?”

The question that arises at this point is, Will there be another season? I have discussed this with someone who thinks there shouldn’t be another season. But I think there should. There are things that could be explored from this point on. We could take a look more into the past of this haunted house. We could look into the future of what could happen or go wrong with this house. I realize that this show is based on a book and with the last episode is the end of the book, it has been wrapped up. (I need to read the book!) That doesn’t mean the story has to stop there. Now Mike Flanagan has so much to work with and he is free to do what he wants from this point on. It could be something amazing and I really would like to see a second season.

I would watch this show again and again. It may become something that I need to watch every year in October because it was fantastic and scary and I want more of it. For me it is added to the list with Hocus Pocus and The Nightmare Before Christmas. It has to be watched a million times. Not to mention that I have a weird feeling that every time I watch it, I will notice something new that I didn’t see before.

My suggestion to you, if you have not seen the show yet, go watch it. And pay close attention to it. Don’t look away for a second because you may miss something. There are a lot of little details thrown in that could easily be missed, which is something I absolutely love.

Have you watched The Haunting of Hill House? If so, what did you think about it? If not, do you plan on watching it? I think you should!

Until Next Time!

ShowRecaps

Show Name: The Walking Dead
Time: Sunday 9pm
Channel: AMC
Episode: Not Tomorrow Yet

Thoughts: This episode was so intense. I spent the whole time just cringing, waiting for someone to die. Evidently, we are all just waiting for Glenn to meet his end. I have been trying to prepare myself for it, even though I don’t want it to happen, I can’t help but believe all the rumors.

First I will say, there was a moment where I wondered if maybe Rick’s group has become the bad guys. I mean, they are going into this place where these men are sleeping. They have done nothing to Rick’s group, unless you count the a-holes that held up Daryl, Sasha, and Abraham. Of course, Daryl took them out real fast, but I guess the guys do have that whole possibility of killing. Then, when Glenn kills his first guy and moves on to the next we see the pictures on the wall. I don’t know if those pictures were live people that this bad guy killed or if they were walkers. Either way, having those kind of pictures above your bed…comforting you as you sleep…you are definitely a bad guy.

I found it funny that so many people thought that Negan, the bad guy we have all been warned about, was the woman on the walkie. The actor who will be playing Negan has been all over the news. It was kind of an eye opener as to maybe how obsessed I am with this show.

So here is my prediction for the next episode. If you watch Talking Dead you saw the preview where one of the guys holding Maggie and Carol called Carol a bitch. I just feel like he signed his own death certificate with that comment. They don’t know how crazy Carol is and I don’t think that Rick and the other guys need to worry about the two women because Carol is about to open a can of…you get the picture

Show Name: Once Upon A Time
Time: Sunday, 8pm
Channel: WLOS
Episode: Souls of the Departed

Thoughts:  Okay, this was not a season premier, but more of a mid-season premier. It is episode 12 of season 5, but after the hiatus we need to discuss this and give the show its props. When we left off at the mid-season finale, Emma and all her companions were taking a trip into the underworld to find and save Killian. Of course, they have to save Killian because he became the dark one and had to be killed to save the town. And it’s all Emma’s fault. Can I blame her?

What I loved about this episode was Regina was reunited with her father. It gave her a chance to apologize for being so horrible to him. And her father is such a great character. Even though his wife and daughter have had their evil past, he never gave up on Regina. It’s so heartwarming that he was always in her corner, never believing for a second that she was the evil queen she tried to be. Regina’s mother on the other hand is just a power hungry skank that doesn’t deserve the love Regina holds for her. But it looks like Cora is in some deep trouble herself with Hades himself. I honestly cannot wait to see what happens with this story line. What is that Hades wants?

I like the direction this show is going right now. I may be a little biased though. I love any kind of twist of the classic fairytales. I think Emma and her family are in for a fight, but I sure do hope they come out with Killian in the end. But not Neal. I liked Neal, but I feel as though his story line is done and over. Sure, let him help them find Killian, but then he can move on like Regina’s father did. Please?

Show Name: Teen Wolf
Time: Tuesday 8pm
Channel: MTV
Episode: Apotheosis (Season Finale)

Thoughts: I may or may not have sat around for 5 hours, binge watching the last 5 episodes of this show. I have this bad habit of waiting to watch my favorite shows until I have almost the entire season to watch at one time because I am terribly impatient and can’t stand a cliff hanger. The biggest problem with Teen Wolf is that it was on a night when I usually had to work and when I close I often have to open the next day. Meaning I have no time to watch Teen Wolf the day it airs. So I just saved them all until this week when I binge watched it all.

So let me get into this. This whole entire season was pretty amazing. There was so much going on and Lydia almost died at least twice. The poor girl. But I feel like this season she really found who she was. She finally understands what it means to be a Banshee and she can use her abilities to her advantage instead of them using her. I know that Stiles and Malia currently have a thing going on, but who hasn’t been rooting for Stiles and Lydia since the beginning? I think it is finally going to happen. Stiles has finally won over Lydia, because he is the one who never gave up on her. He saved her when she thought she was done for. It has to happen!

Speaking of Malia, she finally faced her mother, the Desert Wolf, and killed her! It’s about time we no longer have to worry about that bad guy. Let’s face it, she wouldn’t have fought as hard if it wasn’t for Stiles. Stiles is the only normal human in this pack, and he seems to carry them all. He is the force that keeps pushing them to fight a little harder.

Kira has finally accepted that she needs the skin walkers to help her tame her wild side. I just wish it had been something with Scott that helped her control the Kitsune. Scott is the alpha, the one who saves the day. But a summer with the skin walkers sounds kind of fun. Or not…

Over all, I love the ending of this season. It was a fantastic season. I was starting to get a little bored with the show, but this season has brought me back to the fandom. Scott’s pack has defeated the Beast, after they realized it would take all of them to beat it. He has his pack whole and complete again, with at least one added person in the mix. Theo has been taken down to who knows where. Deucalion was actually there to help the whole time. Mason is okay. Everyone is a hero, and even Allison was able to help from beyond the grave. A perfect ending to a great season. My favorite part is that no one died!

And then at the end, they leave us wondering what is going to happen, because you know these teens can never get much of a break.

My question though, how many more seasons will we get of Teen Wolf? They are all talking about going to college, and soon, our Teen Wolf will no longer be a teen. What happens then? Should we be preparing ourselves for this show to come to an end, or will it follow Scott into his young adulthood until the show no longer catches the public interest anymore?

The Walking Dead
Time: Sunday 9pm
Channel: AMC
Episode: Knots Untie

I actually found this episode kind of boring. Sure there was the whole Rick and Michonne moment and Michonne dropping that one chick to the ground. But other than that, it was rather boring. I realized the need for it. You know, to show where our group is going next, but I just felt like there could have been a little more. I don’t need for them to let me get comfortable and feel like things are safe for a minute, because this group is never safe.

That being said, I am terrified for the next episode tomorrow night. They are going into the pit of the enemy. Who is going to die? Who will survive? It’s going to be so intense!

Shadowhunters
Time: 9PM
Channel: Freeform
Episode: Bad Blood

This episode actually had me so mad! First let me talk about Lydia Branwell. The chick that the Clave sent over to check on the institute. She comes in like she owns the place, like she is anyone other than an inspector. Later on she tells Alec about her little sob story about how she married for love and had big dreams until her husband died. Give me a break. I already hated her and I didn’t want to hear about poor pitiful Lydia.

The whole Simon thing has got me so annoyed. He doesn’t even know a vampire, what they are capable of and he instantly calls himself a monster. And let’s not ignore the fact that Clary only brought him back for herself. In the book I was totally okay with it, in the show it just ticked me off. Clary has been so cold towards Simon since she found out what she was. He has been her best friend since they were kids and she knows he wouldn’t bug her that much unless it was something serious. Instead of climbing out of her own head she ignores him, then helps him turn into a vampire. It was almost like she did it just so she could make up for what she had already ruined.

The last thing that really irritated me in this episode is the falcon story that Jace told. In the books it was such an important moment. Jace was finally letting Clary into his mind, showing a little bit of himself. Even in the movie it was done better. In the show it was so poorly done and there was no emotion in it…or rather, bad acting emotion. Serioulsy, the whole thing made me want to jump through the screen and knock out Jace so he would shut up.

Overall, I hated this episode. It reminded me why I disliked the show to begin with. Not to worry, I am a sucker for the whole shadowhunter world and I will keep torturing myself through this show. Why? For Magnus. No lie. And if they mess up the chance of an Alec and Magnus relationship by allowing Alec to actually marry Lydia, I will forever be done with this show.

The 100
Time: Thursday 9PM
Channel: The CW
Episode: Thirteen

So much happens in this episode. I was blown away to be honest.

At the beginning I was complaining that I felt the relationship between Lexa and Clarke was forced. It just didn’t feel natural to me. Then again, that could be because I so want Clarke and Bellamy to get together. I feel like they would be a great power couple. Though, now that Lexa is dead, maybe we can have that power couple and they just take over the whole world. Fingers crossed?

I was shocked that Lexa was killed in this episode. I was a little upset about it and I think this will cause huge problems for Arkadia. Without Lexa there to protect Arkadia because of her love for Clarke, we may see more of Arkadia people dying. Hopefully Pike will be the first to go.

There were so many twist in this episode. One, the end of the world was actually caused by a program. I always assumed there was someone behind the “city of lights” chick that told her to end the world, but she did it on her own accord. Then, we find out that the “spirit of the commanders” is actually a chip, a chip created by the same person that created the program that ended the world. Mind explosion!

So my question is, when the two programs recognize each other, what is going to happen? Will there be another end of the world?

Shannara Chronicles

Time: Tuesday 9PM

Channel: MTV

Episode: Ellcrys

This weeks episode was the final of the season. All I can say is please MTV, bring this back for a season 2. There are so many questions and so many places this show could take us. I really don’t have much more to say about it. I was happy with the show. It may have been one of my favorite new shows this year and is probably right up there with Supernatural and The Walking Dead, in terms of importance. MTV did a really great job with this high fantasy series and I have my fingers crossed for a second season.

Show Recaps: Week 2/21 – 2/27

ShowRecaps

Okay folks. I have decided how I am actually going to do this. I will not have a set amount of TV shows I will cover each week. There will be at least one. For the most part, it will be just the shows that really hit me and made me fume with comments. Yes, I take notes while I am watching these shows. I have Word on my phone and keep it open while watching the shows. I was using a notebook, but it was just uncomfortable. I also type on my phone way faster than I write. Odd?

Moving on. This week I didn’t figure out how I was going to do this until half way through the week, so…I only have 3 shows for you today. And only one with a lot to say.

The Walking Dead
Time: Sunday 9pm
Channel: AMC
Episode: The Next World

Thoughts: Loved this episode so much! The bro relationship between Rick and Daryl. The hook up between Rick and Michonne (FINALLY!). And Jesus…who is dreamy and I am hoping that he is a good guy. According to an article I read, in the comics he is a good guy. But we will see.

And we see the true heart of Carl, leading Zombie Deanna to Spencer. He knew it had to be someone that loved her to take her out. And I am sure it gave Spence a little peace knowing his mother was no longer wondering around the world as a zombie.

Now, let me go into this whole Rick and Michonne deal. I saw it coming, I really did. I have been rooting for this since they left the prison. You have two people who were built to survive the apocalypse, they can have a little romance and keep their heads on straight. Meaning, they will make it, they are in it for the long haul. Not to mention that Carl basically told Michonne she was family and he loved her as so. Also, have you seen how much Michonne loves Carl and Judith? It is a family made in the apocalypse heavens! LET IT BE!

Shadowhunters
Time: 9 Pm Tuesday
Channel: Free Form
Episode: Major Arcana

Thoughts: I don’t have much to say about this show this week. I just wanted to ask a few of you who are fans, did Clary treat Simon this bad in the books? She has basically turned her back on him. He is turning into a vampire and Clary can’t seem to even pick up the phone. If I recall correctly, in the books she was a little more aware of what her best friend was going through. So why does the show have to be so dramatic about it and make Clary look like the worst friend in the world?

Also, OMG! Alec and Magnus! Love!

The 100
Time: Thursday 9PM
Channel: The CW
Episode: Bitter Harvest

Thoughts: Okay, so this show is starting to tick me off. Not to the point where I want to stop watching, but to the point where I want to jump into the television and rip throats out. First you have the sky people at Arkadia, fighting among themselves. They finally reached some kind of agreement with the grounders and stupid Marcus decides that there just has to be an election to make things fair. Big mistake sir!

Now we have this douche nozzle Pike ruining everything the first 100 fought so hard to achieve. Clarke is sitting around with Lexa trying to keep her from killing the sky people, probably setting the site for Lexa to get herself killed. You know how the Grounders have survived? They kill their enemies. You know who their enemies are? The people of Arkadia. Okay, not all of them, but can we please kill Pike already?

Then, we have Jaha with his city of lights BS. I feel like this little happy pill he is handing out is some kind of packet of nano bots. Come on, we all know what happens when you start injecting people with nano bots…the bots take over and all of humanity is lost. But Jaha is too stupid to see what is going on right before his eyes.

So, in conclusion, let Lexa take out Pike and any of his followers except for Bellamy. Which, side note, I am so disappointed in Bellamy. I am totally still shipping Clarke and Bellamy. They should have been a couple a long time ago and wish they would see that already. Sure, Clarke has had her romp in the sheets with chicks, but she was meant for Bellamy! Don’t tell me any different.

Sorry, got off track. Like I was saying, let Lexa in to kill Pike and his followers, give the leadership of Arkadia back to Kane or Abby. Get Lexa back on board with killing her enemies before she becomes too much of a pansy to keep things together. Then find some way to wipe out Jaha’s brain washing computer program. I just can’t take this anymore with Clarke fighting for her people and her people fighting against everything she is doing to save them. Also, we really need to get Pike out of the way before Jaha brings down his hell storm.

TV Show Recap

ShowRecaps

Hey friends! Have you watched a lot of television this week? I watched about as much as I usually do. Okay, I watch a fair amount of television. Too much really. But I love stories, even if it comes in the form of mind numbing television. I have a few shows to share with you this week.

And don’t worry, I’m not going to share every show I watch every week. Just the ones I feel I need to discuss or maybe haven’t said much about. I will have just a handful every week.

Let’s get into this!

First up…last week I completely bashed this show and I continued to watch it with hopes it would get better.

Shadowhunters:

This comes on Tuesdays at 9PM on Freeform.

I watched this past weeks episode and I can’t lie, I actually enjoyed this episode. Next week Episode 6 airs, so you can still catch up. The acting this week was so much better and I was actually interested in the show.

Baby Daddy:

This comes on Freeform, Wednesdays at 8:30pm. I started watching this it’s first season in 2012. To be completely honest, I had no idea that this had been on for so long! I started watching it because of the cast and obviously, the adorable baby. It’s such a cute show and I might be crushing on Jean-Luc Bilodeau. You can totally check out this show with out seeing any of the other seasons. But the whole show is hilarious.

Young & Hungry:

Another Freeform show. Airs on Wednesdays at 8, right before Baby Daddy. I started watching this one because of Emily Osment. I loved her in Hannah Montana…don’t judge me for watching that show. When I found her on another show, I was instantly hooked. She is such a wonderful actress and her character on this show is just so much fun. I stayed with the show because of the back and forth romance/drama between Gabie and Josh. It’s rather frustrating. But the start of this season is looking promising for the cute couple. Again, you can probably tune into this show now and pretty much know what is going on. It’s good for a laugh!

Shannara Chronicles:

MTV Tuesday nights at 10PM. Like I said last week, I am super impressed with MTV and this show! Why am I bringing this up again this week? Because I love it!

Also, this world is set in a post apocalyptic world. The world as we know it right now has come to a screeching hault and this is what left over. The latest episode, episode 7 reminds you that this is a world after our own. Princess Amberle and Eretria fall into a high school gym. In one scene Amberle is looking at a year book, and says something about how those people didn’t even see it coming. She also mentions how they all look so happy. Which is laughable because who is happy in high school? But not my point. It was a moment that acutally made me think about things around me. What would happen if the world did end suddenly.

Looking at this scene it looks like the world ended in the middle of a high school prom. The gym is decorated like it would be for prom or some other kind of dance. It was just a moment that got to me and kind of shocked me because I had forgotten that the world this show takes place in is beyond the life we live now. It was interesting.

iZombie:

Tuesdays @ 9PM on WYCWD

This show is so awesome and in it’s second season. Liv is a zombie, working in a morgue. Her coworker/friend knows what she is and she is supplied with brains when ever she needs them. The goal of her and her friend Ravi is to find the cure for her condition, and the condition of other Zombies spread throughout the world.

I love this show so much! It’s such a unique concept. We have become obsessed with Zombies, but until now most of us see zombies as mindless creatures who just fumble around and feed off the living. This show gives these zombies a life. A “what if” kind of thing.

That’s all I am going to talk about this week. I will do actual recaps eventually. I just have to remind myself to start watching with a pen and paper so I have some notes to go on. Sometimes after I watch a show, everything leaves my brain until it comes on again and I go “Oh, that’s what happened last week!”

What shows have you been watching? What is your favorite? Are you ready for Walking Dead this Sunday!!??!

What Are You Watching?

One thing I said I was going to do was talking about this year was some of the shows I am watching at the moment. Well…I have been watching a few shows. So let’s dive into a quick chat about what I am watching!

New Shows

Shadowhunters:

I wanted to talk about this show first because I was so exited for this one. I read the Mortal Instruments books by Cassandra Clare. I saw the City of Bones movie. I love the whole Shadowhunters world. And then this show came out…I have basically hated every minute of the three episodes I pushed myself through.

Let me tell you, the acting in this show is so horrible. It just feels low budget and half thought out. The dialogue is boring, and it’s not nearly as magical as the books or the movie. I am terribly upset by this. Honestly, I feel like most of the blame goes to the girl cast as Clary, Katherine McNamara. Everything I have seen her acting in has been horrible. In everything I remember her in she has been this spoiled brat that gets upset when she doesn’t get her way. Sadly, she has brought this into Shadowhunters and Clary. I loved Clary in the books and the movie. I do not love the Clary of the TV show.

I will not continue watching this show. Not only because of the horrible acting and poorly written screenplay, but also, I feel like they just changed too much from the books. It just doesn’t feel like the same story and it’s no longer a story I am interested in.

Shannara Chronicles:

Another TV show based on a novel series. Unlike Shadowhunters, I absolutely love this show. It is so amazing! I have heard bad things about the book series, but watching the show makes me want to read the books. Although, I could be disappointed in one or the other after reading the book.

The acting is on point with this show, which honestly surprised me. I don’t know why, because Teen Wolf is an MTV original show and I love it. I just thought with this show being a high fantasy kind of show, that the budget wouldn’t cover the effects it would need to make the show amazing. I was so wrong!

I love Austin Butler, who plays Wil, one of the main characters. He is seriously gorgeous…the lips… Anyways. He is an amazing actor and I loved him in Switched at Birth. He is much better at playing a half elf, half human though.

The leading women of the show, Poppy Drayton (plays Princess Amberle), and Ivana Baquero (plays Eretria) are also amazing actors. I don’t recall any thing else that have played in, but their acting on this show makes me want to see more from them.

Seriously if you have not checked out this show, please take a couple of hours and watch the first two shows. I don’t think you need the first two to be hooked, but you know, just in case you have your doubts.

Lucifer:

This is another show I had my doubts about and I have only seen one episode. Not because I didn’t like the first, I just haven’t had time to watch the second episode. The first episode was very intriguing and I really enjoyed it. It’s a nice twist on the devil himself and what he might be like in real life.

But you see in the first episode, that him leaving hell to mingle among the humans is starting to change him. Then again, it seems like he was forced to be the king of hell, and it doesn’t really suit him. I am looking forward to seeing more of this show and I really hope the future episodes follow the first and keep me interested. There is so much they could do with the story line.

Returning Shows

Teen Wolf:

What really needs to be said about this show? It’s amazing, I love it, and this season has been incredible so far. I thought I would start getting bored at this point, but the show just keeps me on the edge of my seat!

The 100:

This show is in it’s third season and it just keeps getting better and better. Who hasn’t thought about what the world will be like when radiation forces us to escape into space and limited air supply sends us crashing back to the home once deemed unfit for human life?

Also, this was based on a book. I’m afraid to read the book. I’m thinking I will just wait until the show is cancelled (hopefully after several more successful seasons) before I even try reading the books.

There are many more shows that I watch…trust me. There are a ton. But, I have weeks to cover them. I want to start doing a recap/discussion on each episode. Short discussions for episodes I enjoyed with one or two comments, and more in depth discussion for episodes that leave my jaw in the floor.

I will also add times and days that these shows air. Call me lazy this week…I’m trying to get my stuff together to make my post better. Just hang in there with me while I figure it all out.

Tell me, what shows are you watching??

New Show: Wayward Pines

As I have stated before, my blog is all about the stories! Books, movies, and TV shows…and plays if I can ever afford to go to those. So today I bring you a review of a new show!

This past Thursday on Fox at 9pm a new show aired called Wayward Pines. Even though I have vowed to never watch new shows again…because they cancel all the good ones, I decided I needed to see this one!

This is a mini series and will end after 10 episodes, so at least I know there will be an actual ending I can be somewhat happy with and it stars Matt Dillon

Okay, let me try to go over this quickly without boring you to  death, because the show is not boring.

Ethan Burke wakes up in a strange town after he and his partner are in a car accident. According to the nurse, the only nurse and seeming only other person alive in this hospital, his partner didn’t survive.

He checks himself out of the hospital and finds himself at a bar where he calls his wife and gets free food from the waitress. The next day he returns to the bar but the waitress doesn’t work there, according to the guy sitting at the bar. This is when things start sounding a little off.

Ethan finds one of the people he was sent to find, but the man is no longer alive and was tortured before he died. Ethan makes his way to the police department and lets the sheriff know, who actually doesn’t seem to believe Ethan.

Ethan then finds the other person who he was sent to find. She is alive and well. He follows her home and questions her. According to her, she has been in the town for 12 years, except she has only been missing for a few months.

The lady from the bar shows up again, to save Ethan from the crazy nurse who is prepping Ethan for surgery. Beverly (lady from the bar) tells Ethan she has been in the town for a year, and she found herself there after a wreck in 1999. She seriously thinks it has only been a year, when it has actually been much longer.

So the question is, how can one person think she has been in the town for a year, but has been gone for almost 16 years, and another lady think she has been there for 12 years and has only been missing for a few months? Obviously there is something major going on in this town. But what?

Ethan even makes it to the edge of town to find a fence that goes all the way around the town. Sure, it could be a government experiment, but what kind of experiment can make people think they have been in this town for different lengths of time?

My first impression of this show is…”OMG!! WHAT?!” and “Do I really have to wait a week before I can see more of this?” Yeah, it was pretty good and I love a good mystery.

Did you watch the show? What did you think about it? If you have On Demand with Charter, you can watch the first episode. I am sure there are other places you can watch it as well. But I think if you like a good mystery…you might want to check into this show before it’s gone!

Show Review: Black Box

black box show

ABC has this new show that comes on Thursday nights at 10pm called Black Box.  Black Box is about a Neuroscientist, Dr. Catherine Black, who suffers from bipolar disease.  She is on medication that keeps her mind level, but she has a tendency to go off the meds.  She claims they dumb her down and without the medicine she can think better.

During the first episode she stops taking the medication twice.  The first time she ends up taking her driver back to her hotel room for sex.  Then ends up on the hotel balcony, standing on the rails, and almost falling to her death.

The second time she has (or almost has, it was unclear) sex with a co-worker, shows up at her fiances home and forces him into crazy rough sex, and after leaving, begins to antagonize a kid on the streets while on the phone with her niece.  Lucky for her, her niece let Catherine’s brother know that something was up and he was able to get to the doctor before she came to any harm.

During the show it is revealed that Catherine’s mother had bipolar disease as well and ended up killing herself.  Catherine was only 7 at the time and it was her brother, who is 5 years older, that looked out for her.

It is also revealed that Catherine’s niece is actually her daughter.

My Opinion

I thought the show had a great pilot episode and the story line could go anywhere.  I enjoyed the first episode, but I am a little leery about the rest of the season.

I feel sorry for Catherine’s brother.  His life has been plagued with bipolar disease.  First he had to deal with it with his mother and now with his sister.  There is also the lingering risk that his daughter, Esme, who was adopted from his sister, could end up getting the same disease.

And then there is the woman who Josh, Catherine’s brother, married, Regan.  This woman made me so bad I wanted Catherine to punch the woman in the face.

Aside from that, I think it’s great that entertainment is shinning a light on a lesser known mental illness.  Though, I had to do a little research myself about the whole thing.

See, Catherine, when she goes off the medication she gets this high.  She is dancing all over the place and is extremely hyper.  I had always thought someone who was bipolar was either just okay or extremely depressed.

After doing a little research I found out that their are two types of bipolar disease.  Bipolar Depression and Bipolar Mania.  Dr. Catherine Black has Bipolar Mania.  Also, I could totally be misunderstanding my research and someone with Bipolar disease could have both types.  If you know, let me know!

I will be watching this show again next week with my fingers crossed.  It has potential to be a great show.  I have been looking for a show to replace House, and this looks like it might fight the bill.

Did you see Black Box?  What did you think about it?

Show Review: The 100

There are a few new shows starting up recently.  Some have been on for about three weeks, while others have only had their first episode.  One show that has only had one episode is The 100.

This show comes on the CW on Wednesday nights at 9PM.

The idea of this show is the Earth has been evacuated for 97 years and what ever population made it off the Earth safely is now floating in space on the Ark.  Sadly, the Ark is dying and they have to figure out a way to save lives.  The  Chancellor of this ship is like the president, he calls all the shots.  Because of the tight space and the lack of supplies, any and all crimes are punishable by death.  Lucky for anyone under 18, they get to sit in a cell until their 18th birthday before they are sentenced to death.

Now, the reason Earth was evacuated is because of radiation poisoning.  Someone on the ark decides that Earth might actually be safe to return to, but in order to check they create a plan.  Unfortunately for 100 of the kids under 18, rotting away in a cell, this plan includes putting them in a ship and sending them down to Earth.  These teens are given a simple task.  Make it to Earth to test the air, if they die Earth is not safe, if they live they are to find supplies that were left in a safety zone 97 years ago before Earth had to be left behind.

As soon as the ship lands on Earth the kids separate.  You pretty much know from there who is going to cause problems and who is going to take the mission seriously.  Of course, they all committed some kind of crime, so why would they start listening to the adults now?

My Take on the Show
The first episode was fantastic.  It was enough to keep me interested and left me wanting more.  Here are my thoughts in a nice little list!

  1. First of all, these kids are criminals.  They have all done something stupid to put themselves in prison.  Why would they be the first to send down?  Actually, it makes sense to send down criminals to see if they survive, but why so many at one time?  They could have been sent in smaller groups.
  2. Why kids?  They are all under 18.  They are minors with parents that still love them no matter what stupid crime they did.
  3. ANY CRIME can get you locked up.  Does this mean that if one kid steals an extra bite of food and gets caught, the kid automatically goes into lock down to wait for his death the moment he turns 18?
  4. Each couple is only allowed one child.  One couple has a second child and tries to hide it.  When the child is discovered it is taken from the family and the mother is killed.  Was this really necessary?  Really??
  5. One group of kids goes off to find the supplies they were told about.  On their trek through the woods they encounter a deer with two faces and a giant snake that chills in the river.  Is anything safe to eat?
  6. At night the plants glow and two of the teens that are awake find it fascinating.  Yes, it was gorgeous, but it was caused by radiation…is it really that beautiful?  Will it kill you?
  7. One kid that knows his plants picks a flower and eats it.  What part of radiation did they not understand?

All in all, I will be watching more of this show.  Curiosity killed the cat, but I bet the cat was never bored.  This show has got my attention.  I want to know what is going to happen.  Will the ark be saved?  Will everyone return to Earth?  Is Earth really safe?  And who will fall in love with who?  A good show is never complete without a love story, even just a hint of one!

At least in my opinion.
